What is myopia or nearsightedness?
Patient sees objects that are near more clearly, but objects become fuzzy at a distance.

What is hyperopia or farsightedness?
Patient sees objects further away more clearly, but objects that are near are difficult to focus.

What is astigmatism?
The eye has two focal points instead of one. Eye is more oval or shaped like a football.

What is presbyopia?
The natural loss of elasticity in the lens of the eye which makes it more difficult to focus at objects that are near as we age.

What is cataract?
Cloudiness in the lens of eye that may be caused by aging, trauma, high doses of radiation, or side effects of certain long term medications.

What is glaucoma?
Group of eye diseases that have common features which can include raised intra-ocular pressure, damage to the optic nerve and peripheral vision loss.

What is age related macular degeneration?
In patients with the "dry" form a gradual loss of central vision.
In the "wet" form new blood vessels develop. These tend to be fragile and leak fluid under macula which causes loss of central vision in a short period of time.

What causes an eyelid twitch?
Most are associated with fatigue, lack of sleep, too much caffeine, or increased stress.

Is pink eye contagious?
Yes, viral conjunctivitis is very contagious, but other causes of eye redness such as allergies, dryness, and bacterial infections are not.
